2016 - HUNAB Proyecto de vida
Our first project

In October 2016 , the volunteers traveled to Merida, Mexico, to work with HUNAB, which was the first organization beneficiary of volunteer project. This was posible with financial and technical support Plan International USA and Versado Foundation.

HUNAB is a Mexican nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure the sustainable development of the Yucatecan Mayan communities through integrated environmental education. One of its strategies is to work with women in the recovery of native species through productive and sustainable practices as the case of the Mayan-apple snail and freshwater aquaculture.

The aim of the project was that the volunteers could transfer their skills, knowledge and experiences to strengthen the work of women of Program Sustainable Aquaculture HUNAB´s in Mayan communities.

The methodology used in the activities during the visit to HUNAB was highly participatory. Its aim is to provide intensive intervention in communities respectful of culture, and in parallel, allow for voluntary experiential learning through exchange of experiences.

The Project focused on two main activities:

  • A training workshop carried out with Mayan women HUNAB program to improve their knowledge and skills on the concepts of business planning.

  • A day of networking to share experiences with local organizations through a dynamic encounter in which information was provided on institutional strengthening of civil society in relation to themselves and in relation to other local actors.
